What’s New in 2010 for KCHDC?

With the housing market taking a downtown in 2009 and tighter underwriting standards being put in place, KCHDC is looking forward to the new year with expectations in increased interest in the housing market! The Recovery Act Funding being created for first-time and repeat homebuyers has created additional interest in the home buying process.

KCHDC plans to apply for funding to purchase – rehab – and resell homes in Keith County. This will allow us to buy a home on the market and give it a face lift – to include new heating/cooling, hot water heaters, minor electrical, paint and floor coverings. This will give renting families, at low-to moderate incomes, the opportunity to become a homeowner. This project will provide a good option to get into a safe, sanitary and affordable home.

KCHDC will continue to provide homebuyer assistance when funds are available. We are planning on applying for additional down payment assistance funds in 2010. Down payment assistance will be more necessary once the Recovery Act Funding is no longer available. Homebuyer assistance of down payment and closing costs has been made available to over 53 homeowners since the inception of the program.

We are constantly asked if we are building a senior housing project? The board would like to build a rental housing project, however the main priority at this time is to keep the rents affordable for senior citizens. For seniors on limited incomes, it is very difficult for them to pay high rent costs. We want to be successful with a project of this type, and will continue to research funding availabilities to help us build this project. There are other considerations to look at in a senior project besides rent costs; where will it be located, what type of services will be offered, and is there enough interest to fill the complex.

KCHDC appreciates input from residents of Keith County, and invites you to attend their monthly board meetings, usually held on the first Thursday of the month.
